Past Perfect

·    Действие, которое произошло перед другим действием в прошлом или до определенного момента в прошлом.

I had already done homework when she came.

·    Действие, которое завершилось в прошлом, и его результат описан.

I had passed the exam and was really happy.

Past Perfect Continuous

·    Длительное действие, которое началось и закончилось перед другим действием в прошлом. (обычно с since и for).

I had been making films since I entered the University.

·    Длительное действие в прошлом, при описании его результата.

She passed the test with the excellent mark because she had been preparing for it the whole night.

Past Perfect/Past Perfect Continuous

She had been making films since she entered the University and by the time she finished it she had made 10 films.
